A SCIENCE FAIR AND A STEP SHOW

Well folks, the event near and dear to our hearts in grade school is still trucking. That’s right, the science fair is still inspiring, astounding, and challenging youth and adults alike. Though science fair season is drawing to a close, the Kappa Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated at North Carolina State University, take a comedic and enthusiastic approach to preserving the memory of our good friend, the science fair.

These men dedicated themselves and their time to properly prepare for NC State’s 2017 Pan-Afrikan Step Show on April 8th. Though the brothers are more known for hopping than stepping, they did a fantastic job of utilizing their strengths, being creative, and keeping the attention of the crowd. All of these qualities aided in their first place win at the competition, but their science fair theme is what put the icing on the cake. We asked the brothers what the show, the theme, and preparing for it all meant to them.

“The science fair brought a funny twist to the show,” they stated. “We attend NC State and it’s a strong STEM school;  our theme reflected such. It gave us the opportunity to open doors for creativity as science fairs do and as STEM does in the industry. Portraying black males being in a science fair and hopping in lab coats, we tried to create the affirmation that excelling academically is just as “OWT” as the hopping and everything else that comes with college life.”
